KT Wiz pulls off a thrilling upset. They proved once again that they are the nemesis of Kiwoom Heroes. Coach Lee Kang-cheol was happy with the victory.
KT won 12-8 in 10 extra innings against Kiwoom in the ‘2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League’ at the Gocheok Sky Dome on April 18. KT’s season record improved to 44 wins, 2 draws, and 46 losses after a five-game winning streak. The team also maintained its absolute dominance over Kiwoom with a 9-1 record this season.
After the game, head coach Lee Kang-cheol praised his players, saying, “All the players didn’t give up until the end and showed their concentration in every at-bat, which helped us win the game.”
The batting lineup exploded in the final innings. In the top of the eighth inning, Kim Min-hyuk, a pinch-hitter, drew a walk to load the bases. Mel Rojas Jr. followed with an RBI double to center field. In the ensuing at-bat, Kwon Dong-jin walked, Oh Jae-il was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Kang Hyun-woo drove in another run on a wild pitch. KT scored one more run on a sacrifice fly by Choi Jae-dae.
They finally tied the game in the top of the ninth. KT loaded the bases with a walk to Moon Sang-chul, a single to right by Kang Baek-ho, and a single to left by Kwon 파워볼사이트 Dong-jin. Kang Hyun-woo drew a bases-loaded walk, and Choi Jae-dae tied the game with a grand slam over the left-center field fence.
After forcing the game into extra innings, KT’s bats came alive again in the top of the 10th. After Shim Woo-joon singled and Kim Min-hyuk walked to load the bases, Moon Sang-chul hit a two-run shot over the left-center field fence. Next, Kang Baek-ho walked, Kwon Dong-jin singled to right-center, and Oh Jae-il singled to load the bases. KT added another run when Kang Hyeon-woo singled to center field. A sacrifice fly by Choi Jae-dae gave KT another run.
KT’s closer Park Young-hyun faced runners on second and third in the bottom of the 10th inning, but was able to close out the game without allowing a run.
Manager Lee Kang-cheol said, “In the last inning of the game, Choi Jae-dae tied the game with a walk-off home run. After that, Shim Woo-jun’s sensible infield play and Moon Sang-chul’s home run helped us win the game. Park Young-hyun did a great job in the final inning. I also want to praise the performance of the backup players.”
Finally, Coach Lee Kang-cheol said, “We were able to play a good game thanks to the support of the fans who supported us until late. Thank you,” and bowed his head.
