Kiwoom Heroes’ lucky foreign hitter Ronnie Dawson (29) is finally leaving the team.
On the 8th, professional baseball team Kiwoom announced, “Dawson will leave for the United States on the 9th and receive treatment there,” adding, “It will be difficult for him to play in the remaining games this season.”
Kiwoom Heroes decided to hold an event to wish Dawson recovery from his injury and say goodbye to fans ahead of the 2024 professional baseball home game against SSG Landers at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul on the 8th.
It has not been decided whether Kiwoom will release Dawson.
A Kiwoom official said, “We are currently monitoring the situation,” and “For now, we are looking for a new foreign player.”
Kiwoom plans to decide whether to release Dawson within this week.
According to the Korea Baseball Organization 한국을 (KBO) regulations, new foreign hitters must have their contracts expire by the 15th of this month to participate in the postseason.
Dawson had his best year this year, leading the lineup with a .330 batting average, 11 home runs, and 57 RBIs.
However, Dawson was diagnosed with partial damage to his right anterior cruciate ligament after colliding with teammate Lee Yong-kyu during a game defense on the 31st of last month.
