Russia is expanding its gains on the northeastern front amid a stalled Ukrainian counteroffensive that began last month.
Russian forces have advanced up to 1.5 kilometers over about two kilometers on the front line towards Kupiansk in Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv Oblast, Tass and Reuters reported on Monday, citing the Russian Defense Ministry.
Ukraine said it had held off a Russian offensive in the area, but acknowledged that the situation was not easy.
“The situation is complicated but under control,” Ukrainian ground forces commander Oleksandr Sirsky said in reference to the Kupiansk sector.
