Returning to the Korean Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour after a year and nine months, 28-year-old Jin Young Ko (Solaire) withdrew during the second round of the Jeju Samdasu Masters (total prize money: 1 billion won).
Ko withdrew during the second round of the tournament at Blackstone Jeju (par 72-6626 yards) in Jeju City, Jeju Province, on Thursday due to left shoulder bursitis.
Playing in her first KLPGA event as an invitee in a year and nine months since the BMW Ladies Championship in October 2021, Ko suffered from jet lag and weather issues.
“I think I had a little bit of heat,” Ko said after finishing tied for 48th (3-over-par 75) in the first round the day before.
Ko, who started her second round on the 10th hole, birdied the 12th before withdrawing after the 15th due to left shoulder soreness.
Ko, who slipped from No. 1 to No. 2 in the Women’s World Golf Ranking last month, behind Nelly Koda (USA), was hoping to use the tournament in her home country as a springboard to regain the top spot, but was unable to finish the tournament due to illness.
A representative from Ko’s management company, SEMA Sports Marketing, said, “Ko Jin-young tolerated the feeling of the green shaking, but when it came to the wall, she decided to withdraw.” “I had a strong will to try harder,” he added.
Meanwhile, after the break, Ko will travel to England to prepare for the AIG Women’s Open, 스포츠토토 the final major of the season on the U.S. Women’s Professional Golf (LPGA) Tour, starting on Nov. 11.
