South Korean national soccer team captain Son Heung-min will now wear the captain’s armband for his club, Tottenham Hotspur of the English Professional Soccer League (EPL).
Tottenham announced on its website on Wednesday (local time), “Son Heung-min has been appointed club captain. He takes over the armband from Hugo Llorez,” 성인웹툰 the club said in a statement.
Christian Romero and James Maddison will join Son as vice-captains.
“It’s an honor to be captain of such a big team like Tottenham,” Son said through the club. “I’ve already said that every player should feel like a captain on and off the field,” he said in a statement.
We will give our all for this jersey and armband in the new season.”
“Sonny (Son Heung-min’s nickname) has great leadership qualities on and off the field,” said head coach Angie Postecoglou. He is the ideal choice for our new captain.”
“Everyone knows that Son is a world-class player. He has the respect of everyone in the locker room.” “He’s not just famous. It’s not just the fact that he’s the captain of South Korea, but what he’s accomplished here.”
Before Son, the first Korean to be named an official captain in the EPL was Park Ji-sung, the technical director of Jeonbuk Hyundai.
Park officially assumed the captaincy at Queens Park Rangers (QPR), the club he joined from Manchester United.
He is also the “longest-serving captain” of the South Korean national team.
He has worn the captain’s armband since his debut under former coach Paulo Bento in September 2018, 일본야동 with the exception of the East Asian Football Federation (EAFF) E-1 Championship (East Asian Cup), in which the European side was not called up.
Originally, the Tottenham captaincy had been held by French goalkeeper Yoris since the 2015-2016 season.
However, with the departure of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich and the expected departure of the next captain, the armband was given to Son Heung-min.
Since joining Tottenham in 2015, Son has become the club’s most senior player.
Aside from Yossi, only Eric Dier and Ben Davies have been with the club longer than Son. Both joined the club in 2014, but neither has enjoyed the ‘first team’ status for as long as Heung-min.
In fact, neither player was a regular in Spurs’ starting eleven during the club’s peak season, the 2018-2019 UEFA Champions League (UCL) runner-up finish. Only Son Heung-min remains from that squad.
Moreover, both are defenders whose recent performances have significantly reduced their place in the team. Tottenham conceded 63 goals last season, the most of any team in the top 10.
The rebuilt Tottenham squad will kick off the 2023-2024 season against Brentford at the G-Tech Community Stadium in Brentford, England, 한국야동 at 10 p.m. ET on Sept. 13.
