Jung Ho-yeon, who was recognized as one of the top performers in professional soccer’s K League 1 this season, describes the way Gwangju FC head coach Lee Jung-hyo coaches.
Jung was named the winner of the K League 1 Young Player Award at the Hana OneQ K League 2023 Grand Prize Ceremony held at Lotte Hotel World in Songpa-gu, Seoul on Thursday.
The Young Player Award is given to the player under the age of 23 with the most outstanding performance.
Jeong proved his competitiveness with two goals and four assists in 34 games this season.
He received two votes from managers, six from captains and 43 from media, with the highest conversion score of 34.96, beating out competitors such as Hwang Jae-won (Daegu – 32.17), who earned points as a key resource for Gwangju, who finished third on the promotion surge.
Jeong credited Lee at the press conference after the awards ceremony.
“As a player, my coach always tells me not to be complacent. His expectations are also different from this year to next year,” Jung said.
“Even in recent meetings, even if there are plays that he would have praised as good in the past, he wants more,” he continued, “and the players know that. The fans, the media, they will demand more than what is expected of them.”
“I keep thinking about what he’s saying,” he continued, “and I want them to grow and learn and improve. We try not to make the same mistakes and not to be criticized.”
Chung won a gold medal at this year’s Hangzhou Asian Games as part of Hwang Sun-hong’s team. Coincidentally, he shared the title with Daegu FC’s Hwang Jae-won, who is also competing for the Young Player of the Year award.
“Playing in the same team as (Hwang), I have good defense,” says Jung. He is also a side defender, but he can also play in the midfield.” “He has the ability to possess the ball, and I think he is an aggressive player. He has a lot of strengths.” 슬롯게이밍
