Indonesian national soccer team defender Ptama Arhan (Suwon FC) had one of the worst K League debuts of his career.
Arhan was shown a red card four minutes into the second half after coming on as a 26th-minute substitute against Jeju United in the 14th round of the Hana Bank K League 1 2024 at Jeju World Cup Stadium on Sept. 26. Suwon FC was outnumbered and lost 0-1 to 스포츠토토존 Jeju.
Arhan has worn the Suwon FC jersey this season, representing the Republic of Indonesia. He plays for the U-23 national team as well as the A team. He works well with head coach Shin Tae-yong. He also played in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) 2024 Asian Cup, which ended earlier this month. He finished fourth in the Asian Cup and also participated in the Paris Olympic qualifiers.
As such, his form is far from perfect. Nevertheless, Suwon FC head coach Kim Eun-joong brought Arhan to Jeju because another flanker, Park Chul-woo, is out through suspension. Before the game, Kim said, “I don’t know if Arhan will be used or not. I don’t know if Arhan will play or not.”
Suwon FC conceded an early goal in the 11th minute of the first half. They continued to use substitutes in the second half. In the 26th minute, Jung Dong-ho was substituted and took the field. However, while defending in the attacking zone, he committed a dangerous foul on Jeju defender Lim Chang-woo.
The referee pulled out a red card after a video assistant referee (VAR) review. It took four minutes from the substitution to the red card. Suwon FC also faced the worst possible outcome for Arhan’s highly anticipated K League debut.
