The Korea Volleyball Federation (KOVO) opened the 2024 Professional Volleyball Referee Academy for ten days to improve referee expertise and train new referees.
KOVO announced on the 12th, “The 2024 Referee Academy was held for ten days from the 2nd to the 11th at Sangam Nuri Dream Square, Korean Air Practice Gymnasium, and Suwon Yeongsaeng High School.”
On days 2 to 5, we provided theoretical training.
KOVO explained, “Unlike the past when lectures were the main focus, this training was focused on group discussions and presentations,” and “There was a heated debate on various topics, including the video review operation standards and the 커뮤니티 differences between the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) rules and domestic local rules. Along with the group discussions, we invited outside lecturers to give special lectures to motivate and educate the referees’ psychology.”
The practical training from the 6th to the 11th consisted of hand and flag signal training and actual game practice.
In the actual match practice where high school volleyball teams were invited, referees were assigned to each set and self-evaluations were conducted after the set was finished.
The new referee chairman, Choi Jae-hyo, said, “This academy has introduced a new discussion-style training to cultivate on-site response skills,” and added, “We will work to ensure smoother game operation next season.”
KOVO said, “In order to maintain the referees’ sense of reality, we will deploy referees in practice matches between clubs held during the off-season,” and “We plan to prepare for the successful operation of the 2024-2025 season, starting with the 2024 Tongyeong-Dodram Cup Professional Volleyball Tournament in September.”
