The ‘In-Season Tournament’, a cup competition that was first introduced in the National Basketball Association (NBA) last season, will be renovated and held as the ‘NBA Cup’ starting from the 2024-2025 season.
The NBA office announced on the 13th (Korean time), “The Emirates NBA Cup 2024 will be held.”
The NBA Cup is a reorganized version of the ‘in-season tournament’ that was first held during the NBA season as a cup competition last year.
The Los Angeles Lakers won the inaugural championship, and ‘King’ LeBron James was named MVP.
In the group stage, which runs from November 13 to December 3 (Korean time), 30 teams are divided into six groups of five teams each and compete to advance to the tournament.
Each team will play four games in total (two at home, two away) in two ‘Cup Knights’ each week during this period, against the other four teams once each.
The top team in each group will advance to the tournament, and the top two teams from each group with the best records will advance to the quarterfinals as ‘wild cards’ and play a single match.
If two or more teams have the same record, the rankings are determined by head-to-head record in the group stage, goal difference in the group 한국을 stage, number of goals scored in the group stage, NBA regular season record from the previous season, and a drawing. Wild card qualifications are also awarded based on goal difference, number of goals scored, etc.
The quarterfinals will be held at each stadium on December 11-12, and the semifinals and finals will be held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA on December 15 and 18, respectively.
The winning team receives the NBA Cup trophy and prize money.
Like the in-season tournaments that double as regular season games, all 67 NBA Cup games, excluding the finals, are reflected in the regular season record.
A total of nine games, including two Cup Knights games and all tournament games, will be broadcast live across the United States.
