Gangwon FC’s home game in the old city of Gangneung drew a record-breaking 11,084 paid spectators, showing off the love of soccer among the citizens of Gangneung.
Gangwon FC hosted Suwon Samsung in the 24th round of the Hana WonQ K League 1 2023 at Gangneung Sports Complex on the afternoon of the 22nd.
On this day, citizens entered the stadium two hours before the game and recorded the highest number of paid spectators for a home game in history, 11,084.
Previously, the team recorded 7006 fans at home against Gwangju FC on the 7th, and 7203 fans came to the game against FC Seoul a week later on the 15th, marking the second consecutive game with a paid attendance in the 7,000s.
In Gangneung’s home games this season alone, more than 25,000 people visited the stadium to cheer on the team.
In the match against Suwon Samseong, the team played with a lot of energy in the first and second halves, earning applause from the crowd.
Although Gangwon FC lost the game 1-2, the cheers from both teams were a sight to behold.
In particular, Suwon Samseong’s 2,500 fans cheered for the entire 90 minutes of the game, showing their true colors.
“I didn’t expect so many people to come to Gangwon FC’s soccer game,” said Kim Mo, a citizen. “It’s unfortunate that Gangwon FC lost, but it’s exciting to see people come together to cheer, and it feels good to relieve stress.”
