Six of the LG Twins’ young pitchers left the country early to prepare for spring training.
LG’s Son Ju-young (26), Jung Woo-young (25), Lee Ji-gang (25), Kim Yun-sik (24), Lee Sang-young (24), and Kang Hyo-jong (22) will fly to Arizona 20 days early. First, they will go to a warm place to relax their shoulders and prepare for spring training.
For each of them, the 2024 season is important.

Kim Yun-sik has the head start, but results could change in camps and exhibition games. Depending on the situation, Kim Yun-sik and Son Joo-young could alternate starts. They’ll need to be ready to step up and take advantage of their opportunities, as they could be used as substitutes if the regular starters are sidelined due to injury, poor performance, or fitness.
Kang Hyo-jong and Lee Ji-gang are the two right-handed alternatives.
Kang Hyo-jong started as the fifth starter last year, but was unable to deliver in the first inning. His major league-quality rotation caught Yeom’s eye, and he pitched well in the trials to earn the fifth spot. He earned his first win on April 6 against Kiwoom with five scoreless innings of relief, but his stability declined after that, and he was eventually demoted to the second team in May.
